Profile description
I was born and raised in Southern California, received my B.A. Degree from U.C. Riverside, and Ph.D. from U.C. Berkeley, both in Psychology. Following completion of my graduate degree, I took a position as Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Applied Behavior Science program in the Virginia Polytechnic & State University (Virginia Tech) Psychology department. After five years at Virginia Tech, I migrated to the corporate work taking a position at The Quaker Oats Company in the area of Marketing and Consumer Analytics & Strategy. My corporate career spanned 30 years, with positions following Quaker Oats with Pillsbury, Kraft Foods, Clorox and Levi Strauss, holding senior Executive Positions at both Clorox and Levi Strauss. Following my corporate career, I spent 3 years as a Management Consultant, and have now been retired for 5 years. In terms of golf, I have been playing golf since late high school, though my organized sports experience was with baseball and basketball, which I played as a youth through High School Varsity. During my undergraduate and graduate educational years, I stayed active in sports, but more recreationally, with tennis and squash. As I started my career at Virginia Tech, golf became my primary recreational activity, and became a vehicle for making longstanding friendships, especially during my corporate career. Ironically, I took a 12 year golf Hiatus when I returned to California, after going through a divorce and remarriage. My second wife and I were engaged in work, sports cars, motorcycles and scuba diving during those years. Honestly, I also found it difficult to make friends in the San Francisco Bay Area that were interested in golf, so focused on the other activities. At retirement, encouraged by my wife and some friends in the Sports Car Club we belonged to, I took up golf again, and it has returned to it's rightful position as my primary recreational activity and passion. My wife took up the game as well, and we now play regularly. During my corporate career, I spent 15 years in the Midwest, where golf was restricted to 6 months by weather. However, I was fortunate to have a group of friends that made annual golf trips at the end of weather to numerous great venues in Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Some great corporate golf also came my way during those years. A loving family and some friends graciously support my passion for the game, as my wife and I balance it with gardening, fly fishing and travel, the latter which now almost always includes golf!
